First off, introduce yourself and what your role is in the band.
Hello! My name's Joston Michael and I'm the singer and songwriter for Youthfool.
How did you come up with the bane name?
The name stemmed from being comfortable with making remarkably foolish decisions during my prime adolescence. Haha!
Your new single; 'Wet' is released on February 15th, what was the writing process like?
'Wet' was such an amazing process. I had been looking to get out of the stereotypical 80's genre. Wet had given me that opportunity. It felt wrong at first, but just after working with it for a bit, everything felt great and threw my ass for a loop!
What inspired the chorus in 'Creep' to be a saxophone solo instead of lyrics? Was the idea always like that, or did it come while making the song?
'Creep' is its own world for sure. That chorus was derived from wanting to not have a hook that was a vocal melody. I wanted to switch up the game and throw a saxophone hook in the picture to switch it up. Plus, Jason is such a great saxophonist that it had to be the hook!
What's your favorite part about performing live?
One of Youthfool's best characteristics is our live show. There's such an intense wall of energy and dynamics that not a lot of local/indie level bands meet. People think we're an internet band but our east coast authenticity shines through in our raw ass live show.
Which artists are inspirations for your music?
Definitely Creed and early Britney.
Your album 'Before You Leave' is beautiful, what's your favorite song on the album, and why?
'What You're Looking For' would have to take the cake. That song is probably the most meaningful song of mine lyrically. Ever.
