The indie/folk/alternative group from Hamilton, Ontario have just released their third single. Athanase is all about being true to themselves with their music, and "Battlefield" proves that point. I had the chance to chat with the Canadian band on all things music - check below.
1- “Battlefield” is your third single, do you think your music has already evolved in any way?
----> Absolutely. There is actually an early demo of “Battlefield” floating around out there, from a couple years back, and if you compare the two you can really see we’ve learned a lot about how to write parts as band, to serve the song, instead of all doing our own thing. I think it’s especially obvious in the vocal harmonies and instrument dynamics.
2- You just went on tour in June, and are playing some shows all over Ontario very soon, what’s the best thing about touring?
----> Easily my (Jason) favourite part is seeing the different reactions our songs get in different cities and venues. It’s always a blast to take a song for a spin live; when you write/rehearse music there’s no audience so you never truly know how a song will be received. It’s especially fun to play a song you’ve never played live before, nothing beats the feeling when it lands.
3- After this release, do you plan on releasing an album or an EP?
----> The three releases we’ve put out so far have all been part of a larger EP, we’ve just chosen to break it up and release it one song at a time over the year. The first track we released, Times Like These, is the title track of the EP. If you listen closely to the lyrics each of the songs tells a part of the story. Once we’ve released all of the tracks it will be repackaged into a full release.
