Drive! Drive! is a pop / alternative three piece band from Nashville Tennessee, formed by Alex Johnson (vocals and guitar), Gavin Hurlburt (synths, guitar and vocals), and Philip DeLuca (drums and vocals). The group says that "[they] just want to build relationships and change lives through the power of music."
I got the chance to interview the band, here it is!
What inspired the band name? And were there any other name ideas while figuring out the band name? If so, what?
--> Alex essentially got the idea when thinking about a car chase scene. Someone yells, “Drive! Drive!” In a getaway scene. Rallying call to ourselves that we need to keep pushing forward to achieve our goals. To never stop.
How did you all meet?
--> We all met through Facebook around August of 2017 but we officially became a band around April of 2018.
You only have 3 singles released so far, but do you think your sound has evolved already?
--> Yes, I think with every song we write together we say to ourselves, “this sounds like Drive!Drive!"
Who are your musical inspirations?
--> We have inspirations ranging from classic rock to hip hop to pop. Aerosmith to The Killers.
Are there any goals you'd like to accomplish one day?
--> Take over the world! But actually, we’d love to tour the world and support ourselves solely on music.
Dream tour lineup?
--> The Killers, Ariana Grande, and Bruno Mars.
What was the writing process like while writing 'Love To Hate You’?
--> Alex started writing this song after a text that said, "I love to hate you". He then wrote the lyrics before he met the band. Once the band started, they finished it and realized it was going to be their next single.
Your music seems to always have a cool beat, do you think you'd ever make a slow song, just to see how it turns out?
--> We definitely have slow songs in mind for the future.
